Being a Gangsta Guy
Aside from talking the talk, a true gangsta has to walk the walk. In
order to be a gangsta guy, one has to have a certain look that matches
his swagger, language and demeanor. It only means that one has to wear
certain attire that befits his status as a gangsta. Here are some ways
to dress like a gangsta guy:
There are a lot of inspirations for looking a gangsta guy. For one, a
gangsta guys could choose a more sporty look. A sporty look would
consist of brightly-colored branded track suits, sheepskin, leather
bomber jackets and rubber shoes. One can also look like a gangsta
wearing a loose, oversized shirt. For the longest time, this has been
the most common look for a gangsta guy. Ever since hip-hop or gangsta
fashion became in vogue, sportswear brands such as Adidas, Nike and Puma
have become trademarks for gangsta wear.

A gangsta look for guys is not just limited to wearing brightly-colored,
ostentatious sports wear. One can also look gangsta by wearing loose,
oversized clothing, such as shorts or pants. Common brands that are
associated with this style include clothing from FUBU, Ecko Unlimited,
Karl Kani, Mecca USA, Lugz, and Rocawear, Urban footwear, such as
sneakers made by Mark Ecko, Adidas, Nike, Timberland, and the other also
have the distinct gangsta look. A gangsta look can also be achieved by
wearing accessories such as oversized or shuttered sunglasses.

A gangsta look can also be achieved by wearing jewelry. One can
always spot a gangsta by looking at his jewelry. Gangstas distinguish
themselves by wearing “bling bling” or ostentatious jewelry. These
“bling blings” display wealth, and the chunkier or bigger the piece is,
the richer the gangsta is. “Blings blings” could be jewelry pieces made
out of gold, silver or even platinum. These “bling blings” could be
oversized watches studded with crystals, chunky necklaces, bracelets and
heavily studded earrings. One could also try big, shiny name plates that
are worn around the neck. Some gangstas even have their braces or
jackets custom made, in order to become “bling blings” in themselves.
Gangstas also have opportunities to dress up, and when they do, they try
to emulate the mobsters of the decadent 20s and 30s. This “classic
gangsta” look features throwback fashions such as bowler hats,
double-breasted suits, silk shirts, ties, and alligator skin shoes
(which are also called “gators”). Some even complete the look with
walking sticks or canes, and couple this look with shiny, ostentatious
jewelry. This look is popular with some rappers, and is emulated by
youths, especially in formal events.
Gangsta guys also have a certain hairstyle to go with their look. Common
with gangsta guys are hairstyles like cornrows (tightly braided hair
that is arranged in rows, similar to corn growing in fields), Afros
(curly hair that is fluffed up) or Caesar low-cuts. Gangsta guys do
sometimes shave their hair off. Nonetheless, a gangsta guy’s hairstyle
always depends on the clothes that he wears.

Another common look for gangstas involves tattoos. Gangstas, in order to
evoke notoriety, at times heavily tattoo themselves, with looks ranging
from Chinese characters to animals or other designs. Many gangstas see
tattoos as a status symbol, and do so in order to look cool.
Of course, being a gangsta guy does not just depend on one’s look. While
one does not have to imitate everything that a typical gangsta wears,
especially when it comes to radical choices like body piercing or
tattoos, one can have the swagger and the confidence to carry out the
look. So, if you are confident enough, and you feel fashionable, you can
try the gangsta guy look anytime!
